Overview
For this release, EMI (Australia) dusted off the UK 'Back In The U.S.S.R.'/'Twist And Shout' single, released there in 1976 to promote the Rock 'N' Roll Music compilation LP. As EMI (Australia) had gone with the US choice of 'Got To Get You Into My Life'/'Helter Skelter', this created a somewhat convenient situation in 1986 when they chose to release the coupling to tie-in, and cross-promote, the recent release of John Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off film, which featured the track 'Twist And Shout'. EMI (Australia) swapped the sides and created a picture sleeve, using a promo photo supplied by Paramount Pictures. Evidence suggests that only commercial copies were housed in the sleeve, with promotional copies housed in generic EMI sleeves instead. The pressing outlasted the sleeves, with later copies also appearing in generic EMI sleeves.
By now Michael Jackson owned the ATV Music catalogue, which included almost all Beatles tracks. With his purchase, worldwide publishing moved to CBS Songs, hence its mention on the flipside of this single.
